Apache green paint is available from Total
Electronics, Mike Shelton E-Mail [email protected]

Some Mohawks, etc., DID have chrome knobs! Later
versions shipped from the Heath plant did use chrome
plated knobs instead of the original cast aluminum.

Now, I have used a product called "Bar Keeper's
Friend", which can be found in the same area as
household cleansers (Ajax, etc.) in super markets.
This comes in a container just like the household
cleaners and is a powder. Use a toothbrush and a
little water to clean the knobs with this product.
They come out looking very nice. You can spray the
knob after it has dried with Crystal Clear Krylon to
give it a gloss if desired. I did the knobs on my
Apache, Mohawk, SB-10, and Seneca with this product.
My Warrior came with the chrome knobs so I didn't need
to do it.

Silver polish will not usually work well on aluminum.

I use the Bar Keeper's Friend on all sorts of knobs
including plastic as well as other things that need to
be cleaned and polished. It does an excellent job.
The price in this area is about $3. I bought a can
several years ago and I still have some left!

If the nameplate is just broken and not shattered, you
can glue it back together with a "super glue gel".
Then, paint it with a silver colored spray paint. I
have done this with Heath logos before and they came
out fine.

Finally, does anyone know of a way to brighten up the
metal knobs on older Heathkits. Some nicely preserved
Apaches, Mohawks, Senecas, etc. almost appear to have
chromed knobs.
