Hello fellow Heathkit fans,
Now that the restoral is complete and most of the "Optimization" has
been accomplished, I can say with no reservation, it works like a
champ.
Ok guys and gals, let's face it, we have all asked ourselves a time or
two, should I make any mods to my Heath equipment? Well, the reality
of it is, these radios are not Collins classics as far as vintage
equipment values go. Once it is no longer a kit, it exists only for
your personal enjoyment, not it's cash value.
These mods that Mike WB8JKR worked so hard on are not just imaginary.
They really work! I did all the transmit and receive improvements, the
S-meter and ALC improvements and the only thing left for when I get
the inclination is the IF passband improvements. All this without
cutting anything or drilling anything. Mike did a superb engineering
analysis of the HW101/100 and he was right on about the extent of the
improvements.
The biggest improvement is in the receive mode. It always was a hot
(sensitivity) receiver but lacked seriously in signal processing right
through to the audio stage. Now it sounds great!
Go ahead, give it a try. It not only works, it's fun. Good refresher
or primer in tube technology. If you try some or all of the changes,
let Mike know and thank him. The file can be found at

Look down at the bottom under Mods. Lots of other great info there too
for those not familiar with the site. Good luck and enjoy our
Heathkits, it's not sacrilegious to make them better. THANKS AGAIN
MIKE!
73 and Heathkit forever,
