The 1N34s are low loss germanium signal diodes
for a reason.
The 1N914s are silicon diodes and signals levels
will suffer greatly. Much better to get a hot carrier
diode or one of the HP Schottky diodes 5082 series
(5082-xxxx). Brad Thompson has matched quad
sets (cheap) [email protected]
I took data on these diodes on an SB-104 and they
are terrific.
If he is out, send me an e-mail.

Hi Heathkit fans,
I read somewhere that audio quality can be improved by substituting
Schottky hot carrier diodes in the prod det for the 1N34A's supplied
by Heath. I went through my junk box and the best I can come up with
is high speed silicon switching diodes type 1N914. I would thinik this
would be better than the 1N34's but would appreciate some input on the
pro's and con's.
