Marty,

What a wonderful write-up.

You actually made me feel like a heel for being down here in Florida on Captiva Island and not at field day! This is the first year after the last 6 that I have not been involved in a summer camp staff. My brother has a time share at a resort here on Captiva Island and he invited me this year to join him and who could refuse that. We drove down with kayaks (4) on the roof rack of the jeep and pulling a covered trailer full of gear including four bicycles. Been having loads of fun on the island but field day sure sounded like fun too. BTW, this was the first year that I could celebrate my anniversary on the day it occurred since I got married. Field day always came first and then scouting. Just to show you where my priorities are. Not to fear, my better half new going in that ham radio was my mistress so we have always worked around it. Anyway, I do look forward to future field days as this is one of my passions in ham radio. Thanks for such a wonderful report about the happenings at field day.

73s to you and the club members,
Peter

GREAT FIELD DAY HCRA!!

My thanks to:

1. the co-chairmen Jim KK1W AND Matt W1MSW and the FD committee for
organizing HCRA FD 2010.

2. Special thanks to Ed KB1NWH and every member of the "hard core crew" for
their extra effort and hard labor doing the setup and tear down work.
Without you there would be no 7A field day.

3. the "usual suspects" for their annual effort to keep a 7A operating with
an inadequate number of phone and CW operators and still manage to rack up
the points. Maybe 2011 will bring more of our "active" hams to venture away
from their armchairs and operate in the wilds of Dufresne Park.

4. To Jose N4BAA for joining us this year and working some CW magic on 40
and 20. Even at zero dark thirty, it was a pleasure to watch him work CW.
Unfortunately, I was unable to arrange for a Vulcan mind meld, so I remain a
CW "wanabe".

5. To Jim NN1Y, Maestro of the kitchen, for the excellent food and beverages
provided at each meal and the coffee that kept the graveyard shift going all
night.

6.To Matt, thanks for all your work bringing the HCRA field day into the
21st century with a wireless network for station logging and communications.
I have never been able to understand the human trait of resistance to
change, but never despair, eventually the Luddites disappear.

7. To all who found time to visit Dufresne Park and enjoy whatever facet of
FD that rang their chimes.

8. To Bob W1SQ for bringing power to the people and Kelly, our 12 year old
starlet, now a veteran of two field days whose little voice causes big
pileups which she methodically clears like a pro. We could use another dozen
young HAMS like Kelly to keep the hobby and the HCRA young and vibrant.

See you next year for FD 2011.

73,

Marty W1MJB
