Today's antenna party at Dufresne was extremely successful. Thanks to the
efforts of Ed and 'Eagle Eye' Matt all the wire antenna supports are in
place. We only lost one ball in the process. About half way through Ed and
Matt got in a groove and every shot was right on the money.
We shot support ropes for:
160 SSB dipole
80 CW dipole
75 SSB dipole
40 CW dipole
40 SSB dipole
GOTA G5RV
We finished with time enough to hang the 40 SSB dipole. It sure was looking
good, facing the right direction and waaay up in the sky!
The antenna/tower crew will once again be assembling at 6:00 AM tomorrow
morning to erect the four AB-577 towers, assemble the beams and hang the
rest of the wire antennas. All the time this is going on stations are being
assembled, food is getting organized, generators are being setup and the
public information booth is being readied for our visitors.
Looking for some fun tomorrow, come on down! From 5:00 to 7:00 PM lunch will
be on us, for every HCRA member and a guest. Have a burger and take a turn
operating one of the CW or phone stations. If you're a new ham or haven't
been on the air much drop by the GOTA (Get On The Air) station where we have
a coach on site to help you with your HF contacts. This year's Field Day
even boasts a 15M QRP station and a VHF station on all modes on 6, 144 and
432 MHz.
This weekend is amateur radios opportunity to shine. By setting up in public
locations and demonstrating how we can setup reliable communications 'when
all else fails' we show the world the value (and of course the fun too) of
ham radio. If you've never been to a Field Day before try and carve out an
hour or two of your schedule to come down and see what all the commotion is
about. If you're an old hand, but haven't been to a Field Day lately what
are you waiting for? An invitation? Well, you just got one!
A large portion of your club has worked tirelessly and contributed a lot to
our Field Day effort. They realize not everyone has as much time to devote
to events such as this and that's OK. What really makes their day is when
YOU drop by, show your support and participate in the activities. We look
forward to seeing you at Field Day 2010!
'73.
