Wow, guess what. In this time of recession HCRA is hiring! Of course the pay
is kind of low - but the rewards are high. Here's an opportunity to give
back a little to your club, without having to take a penny from your pocket!
So what do we need for 2010?

COFFEE & DONUT COORDINATOR

This position is responsible for ensuring there is adequate coffee and
donuts for the monthly meetings. You would pick up donuts, arrive early
enough to make the coffee, set up the table and have everything ready for
7:15 PM or so, just prior to the meeting. Additional responsibility is
keeping track of the donation bucket so you have money to buy the donuts
next month. There is no accounting involved, the balance from the donation
jar is returned to the club at the end of the June meeting.

So, do you have what it takes for this important job? Your additional 15 -
30 minutes donated to HCRA will be appreciated by everyone!

MONTHLY RAFFLE COORDINATOR

This position is responsible for holding the monthly raffles.
Responsibilities include suggesting appropriate raffle prizes, purchasing
prizes for each meeting, selling tickets during the meeting and of course
holding the drawing. At the completion of each raffle accounting for the
expenses and income and handing the money and financial reports to the
Treasurer on a monthly basis.

The successful candidate will like working with people and basic math
skills. This is important position that helps fund the cost of our meeting
hall.

FIELD DAY COORDINATOR

This position is responsible for organizing HCRA's premier event, ARRL Field
Day. Responsibilities include just about every facet of Field Day, from site
selection, operator, food, logging, etc.

The successful candidate will need to have a solid background in amateur
radio and hopefully at least one or two Field Day's under their belt. A good
knowledge of equipment, antennas and local operators is very important. This
is a big job but the coordinator is exactly that, coordinating the efforts
of others. The ability to solicit, select and motivate a disparate group of
area hams is more important than technical knowledge.

We already have DuFresne Park reserved for 2010 so site selection isn't
required this year. With the vast amount of experienced operators we have,
and many years of holding the event there will be a lot of help available,
reducing the burden on the coordinator. If you feel you would like to take
on this important job we would suggest talking to a few coordinators from
past events and/or discussion with the board of directors. We will work very
hard to make sure the correct individual has all the tools necessary to be
successful.

BOXBORO TRIP COORDINATOR

This position is responsible for organizing a van trip to the New England
ARRL Convention in Boxboro, MA. The Convention this year will be held on
August 28th and 29th. We did this trip two years ago and had 13 folks that
had a fantastic time. Responsibilities include advertising the trip,
collecting and depositing the money, renting and driving the van, purchasing
the tickets and of course having a good time. If you're planning on going to
the convention anyway why not donate a little more of your time so others
can have fun as well. Plus, you get the 'warm fuzzies' by being green and
reducing our collective carbon footprint.

HCRA BOARD MEMBERS

We're half way thorough our season so the June elections will be here before
you know it. Your club could greatly benefit from an infusion of 'new blood'
into the board. As always every position is open and we encourage all our
members to look into their schedule and see if you could find some time to
help HCRA continue to grow. Combining your love of amateur radio with the
strength of HCRA will help create more amateurs and more fun for everyone.
Experience is not as important as attitude - we need people that want to
show everyone the fun of amateur radio.

All applicants need only contact any HCRA board member for consideration for
any of the above positions. Your involvement won't put much in your pocket
but will build your emotional bank account for years to come.

'73 and Happy New Year,

Jim, KK1W
