Hey folks,
The ARRL 10 Meter contest is just a few days away. The 'test' kicks off at
7:00 PM EST, Friday, December 10th (that's actually 0000Z Dec 11th) and runs
for 48 hours to 7:00 PM EST on Sunday, December 12th.
What does this mean to us, the HCRA member? Gee, I'm glad you asked, it
means a lot!
This contest is presents a perfect opportunity to try some HF work and maybe
get some real DX on HF. Solar propagation forecast isn't spectacular; no
sunspots but the solar flux is predicted to be around 73 and there are no
solar storms in the forecast. This means there we will hear some DX from
time to time during the 'test'. Not great but it could be much worse.
In a word this is a FUN contest! Although it goes for 48 hours realistically
there won't be any significant activity from late evening until the
following morning. You don't have to sit in front of your radio for hours on
end to do well. This is a contest that is really tailor made for someone
with a technician license. You can operate SSB (phone) from 28.300 to 28.500
MHz. Believe me, there will be plenty of activity Saturday and Sunday, it
should be fun.
We also can participate in this contest as a club activity, from the comfort
of our own home. When you turn in your log be sure to list "Hampden County
Radio Assn." in the affiliated clubs field on your log. Your score will get
added to all the others sent in for HCRA, perhaps even pushing us over the
top! Also making it more fun HCRA will issue certificates for simply making
a few as five contacts. Read about those awards and more about the ARRL 10M
contest on our website at: http://www.hcra.org/tutorial.htm
So get ready for some fun this weekend and look for WB1Z and W1NY (HCRA club
calls) on the air!
'73.
