Yeah I know, it's a trick question. If you're planning on attending HCRA
Field Day this year then you know it hasn't happened yet. You still have to
wait until the coming weekend to enjoy friends, food and FUN playing amateur
radio for hours on end.
But lets push the clock forward and pretend the time is about 10:00 PM on
June 29th. And now ask the question again, "what did you do on Field Day"?
If you went to field day your list might include:
1. Operated some HF stations and made contacts across the country and around
the world.
2. Helped put up/take down stations and antennas (and learned a lot at the
same time)
3. Ate some good food prepared by Kathy and crew.
4. Had fun shooting the breeze with other hams like yourself.
5. Ate some more good food.
6. Had some more fun with my friends.
7. Ate some more good food and made more contacts...
I think you're getting the picture!
But what if you didn't go to Field Day? What would your recollections be
like this pretend evening of the 29th?
1. Mowed the lawn.
2. Did some grass trimming.
3. Went to the in-laws house and mowed the lawn there too.
4. Checked off some more chores on the 'honey-do' list.
5. Got your stuff ready for work on Monday.
6. Balanced the checkbook.
7. Went to a kids birthday party...
Not as pretty a picture as the first one, is it?
So now is the time to make the decision, put your foot down and sneak out of
the house next weekend for Field Day, the HCRA way! Put some fun back into
your weekend and at the same time demonstrate to the local community what
amateur radio is all about. Show them how, when they need communication the
most, that amateur radio will be there to provide it.
And there's nothing wrong with having a little fun at the same time!

Thanks and we really hope to see you next week at Field Day,
