Hello to all..
..Winter Storm in Progress Across Much of Southern New England..
..Winter Storm Warning in effect through 1 AM Saturday for Southern New
Hampshire, Northern Connecticut, North-Central Rhode Island, and
Massachusetts away from the South Coast and Cape Cod. For the Greater
Boston area through the North Shore and Southeast New Hampshire, this
warning is in effect from 10 AM Friday through 1 AM Saturday..
..Winter Weather Advisory in effect for South-Central and Southern
Coastal Rhode Island, South Coastal Massachusetts, Cape Cod through 4 AM
Saturday and now includes the Islands of Marthas Vineyard, Nantucket and
Block Island through 1 PM Saturday..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation is requested through early afternoon. Ops at
NWS could be utilized to monitor conditions through the evening commute
and changeover in precipitation..
Snow has overspread the southern and western parts of Southern New
England and will spread into Northeast Massachusetts and Southeast New
Hampshire later this morning. There will be a brief burst of heavy snow
in the morning across Southeast Massachusetts, Rhode Island and
Connecticut but a more widespread heavier snow is expected to develop
across a larger portion of Southern New England towards mid afternoon and
through the evening commute. The forecast remains largely unchanged from
last night for the warning area. Total snowfall across the Winter Storm
Warning is expected to be in the 6-8 range and while the warning
statements show slightly lower snowfall totals for parts of the area, the
NWS Area Forecast Discussion that 10 amounts cannot be ruled out in
parts of the warning area. Precipitation will stay predominately snow
along and north of the Mass. Pike with some mix of sleet possible in the
area of the Mass. Pike. South of the Mass. Pike in the warning area, more
of a mixture of sleet and freezing rain is expected.
The Winter Weather Advisory continues through 4 AM Saturday for
South-Central Rhode Island, South Coastal Massachusetts and Cape Cod. The
advisory has been expanded to include the islands of Marthas Vineyard,
Nantucket and Block Island through 1 PM Saturday. 3-6 of snow and ice is
expected across Southeast New England with 1-4 amounts of snow and ice
over the islands. Precipitation will mix with and change with sleet and
freezing rain over Southeast New England in the mid-late afternoon with
the possibility of a changeover to rain over parts of these areas in the
evening before it changes back to sleet, freezing rain and snow before
ending. Over the islands, the snow should mix with sleet and freezing
rain in the early to mid afternoon with a changeover to rain. The
precipitation will then change back to sleet, freezing rain and then
eventually to snow before ending Saturday Morning/early afternoon in this
area.
SKYWARN Self-Activation is requested through early afternoon. Ops at NWS
could be utilized to monitor conditions through the evening commute and
any changeover in precipitation. This will be the last complete
coordination message on this event. A shortened coordination message will
be issued if Ops at NWS Taunton is initiated. Below is the Winter Storm
Warning/Winter Weather Advisory statement and Hazardous Weather Outlook
from NWS Taunton:
