A quick hitting coastal storm will be affecting the region tonight and
Monday Morning. A Heavy Snow Warning is now in effect for Southern New
Hampshire, Northern Connecticut, Western, Central and interior Northeast
Massachusetts from 7 PM this evening until 10 AM Monday Morning. In the
Heavy Snow Warning area, 5-9” of snow is expected with the precipitation
remaining all snow. Snow will begin between 7-10 PM this evening from
west to east and end between 7-10 AM Monday Morning from west to east. A
Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the North Shore, Greater Boston
Metro area and western suburbs of Southeast Middlesex and Norfolk
Counties and Northwest Rhode Island from 7 PM this evening through 10 AM
Monday. In this area, some sleet is expected to mix in with the snow
holding down snow accumulations slightly but 4-7” of snow is still
expected in this area.

A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect for the remainder of Rhode
Island and Southeast Massachusetts including the South Coast from 7 PM
this evening through 7 AM Monday. In this area, more of a mix with sleet,
freezing rain and rain is expected. Total snow accumulation is now
expected to be 3-6” across the advisory not just for the interior
locations but also including the south coasts of Massachusetts and Rhode
Island. It is noted in both the Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather
Advisory areas that if there is less of a wintry mix higher snow
accumulations would be possible and would need to be monitored. Across,
Cape Cod and the Islands, mostly rain is expected with little if any snow
accumulation but this will be monitored for changes as well.

It is noted that another storm could affect the region Tuesday into
Wednesday and could be a larger storm with potential for strong winds.
This will be monitored closely after the storm for Sunday Night and
Monday passes.

SKYWARN Self-Activation will be utilized to cover this event for a few
hours this evening and especially Monday Morning for snowfall reports and
precipitation type changeover. Ops at NWS Taunton could still be utilized
and if so, the coordination message will be updated but at the moment, it
appears this event can be handled with a self activation. This will be
the last coordination message unless a significant change in the storm or
Ops at NWS Taunton is utilized. Below are the Heavy Snow/Winter Storm
Warning/Winter Weather Advisory Statements and Hazardous Weather Outlook
from NWS Taunton:
