.
A quick moving storm Saturday Morning will cause wintry precipitation
over the extreme northwest part of the NWS Taunton County Warning Area. A
Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for 2-9 AM Saturday Morning for
Cheshire and Western-Central Hillsborough County New Hampshire for 2-3
of snow before a changeover to sleet and freezing rain. Other areas that
may experience winter weather is along and north of the Route 2 corridor
in Northern Massachusetts into Eastern Hillsborough County New Hampshire.
In this area, a changeover to rain is expected with only a brief period
of snow and ice expected. If this changes, a Winter Weather Advisory may
be posted for this area. Unless warnings are issued, this will be the
only coordination message on the storm for Saturday.
A much more significant storm is possible Sunday Evening into Monday
Morning as a coastal storm takes shape for the region. Numerous models
are now taking this storm to the 40 N/70 W benchmark or just inside the
benchmark to Nantucket harbor. This would bring a significant snow to an
area from Hartford, CT to Springfield, Worcester, Lowell and Boston Mass.
down to Providence RI. The Cape Cod and Islands area would have a rain to
snow event with this track. Winds could also be strong depending on the
intensity of the storm. It is still a bit too early to tell if this will
materialize and there are a few models that indicate a more southerly and
weaker track but the trend overall has been to a stronger system closer
to the coast and this will need close monitoring. All models agree the
storm will be past the region by midday/early afternoon on New Years
Eve. Future coordination messages will focus on this storm threat.
No SKYWARN Activation is anticipated for Saturday Morning but SKYWARN
Spotters and Amateur Radio Operators are asked to report SKYWARN criteria
to NWS Taunton via the spotter line/webform as needed on snow/ice
accumulations and precip type changeover when it takes hold. SKYWARN
Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton is possible Sunday Night into New
Years Eve Morning for the potential of heavy snow and possibly strong
winds. Another coordination message on the Sunday Night into New Years
Eve morning event will be issued some time on Saturday if watches and
other information is posted by NWS Taunton.
