Hello to all….

WX4NHC will be conducting its annual Communications Test on Saturday June
3rd, 2006 from 9 AM-6 PM EDT (1300-2200 UTC). This is not a contest or a
drill but a test for WX4NHC to test all of its various communications
capabilities.

This brings up an excellent point. Some Amateurs fear that Voice Over IP
technologies will make HF obsolete. This is completely not the case. VoIP
technologies including EchoLink and IRLP are another tool in the
Emergency Communicator’s toolbox and this test exemplifies that to be the
case. WX4NHC will be testing HF, VHF, UHF, Packet/APRS, WinLink and
EchoLink/IRLP connections as part of this test as they act as the
communications center for WX4NHC. This concept is similar to what is done
from a communications perspective at NWS Taunton.
