Subject: [GQRP] CW versus Texting
Hi fellow CW enthusiasts,
I realise the following is rather OT but I hope you find it interesting and
amusing.
Today's edition of the UK Times newspaper has the following heading on page
11:
A race to the wire as old hand at Morse code beats txt msgrs
An Australian museum set up a race between CW operators and teenage text
messagers.
Message (randomly selected)
Hey, girlfriend, you can text all your pals to tell them where you are
going and what you are wearing.
CW
Transmitting - Gordon Hill aged 93.
Receiving - Jack Gibson aged 82.
No abbreviations used.
Text
Sent by - Brittany Devlin aged 13 - using text slang. Also three other
teenagers. Miss Devlin had two years of texting experience. Using text
message shorthand.
Timed Results
CW - 90 seconds to a correct written message.
TEXT - 108 seconds to a correct message.
In three further contests with three further teenagers CW was the winner.
Who said CW has no place today? Perhaps mobile phones should be replaced
with QRP CW transceivers and children taught CW in parallel with English.
:-)
I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did?
