Here's a few interesting radio tidbits that Steve, N1SR made me aware of
earlier today. The 5 MHz is interesting and you can get a special QSL also.
That's neat. And of course it's always good news when one of our amateur
'birds' is back on the air.

AND ---- Don't forget about Field Day!!! (you knew I had to say something
about it!)

GB2RS 5MHz Broadcasts Start Next Sunday
GB2RS news will be broadcast next Sunday, the 29th of June, for the first
time on 5MHz upper sideband, as part of continuing propagation
investigations. The news transmission will be at 12.30pm BST on 5405kHz. To
commemorate the occasion, GB5RS will also be operating on 3645kHz and
7045kHz, and will be gathering reception reports on the 5MHz news broadcast.
For a period of one month only short wave listeners and radio amateurs may
obtain a special QSL card issued by the North Cheshire Radio Club. However,
to qualify, 5MHz reception reports must be sent in writing using the SINPO
code format and quoting QTH Locator. Reports should be sent by post to
G3LEQ, whose address is correct in the RSGB Yearbook, and an SASE must be
enclosed if a QSL card is required in return. Due to the short time scale
involved in this experiment, reports via the QSL bureau cannot be accepted.
Queries, but not reception reports, may be made by e-mail to
[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> or via 01 565 652 652.

FO-29 Satellite is Back on the Air
The Fuji-Oscar 29 - or FO-29 - satellite is back on the air. Signals from
the satellite were lost after the 31st of May. Since then, the Japan Amateur
Radio League's satellite control station has been sending command signals to
turn FO-29's transmitter back on. They finally succeeded on the 16th of
June. The team is now requesting reception reports from those who are able
to hear the satellite. FO-29 is operating in Mode JA, with the uplink
between 145.900 and 146.000MHz and the downlink between 435.800 and
435.900MHz. CW telemetry is on 435.795MHz. If you hear the satellite, please
report the time in UTC, your location and its signal strength to
[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>
FO-29 was launched on the 17th of August 1996 from the National Space
Development Agency of Japan on an H-2 rocket.
