HCRA Day at the Big-E has come and gone again this year. See some pictures,
the list of volunteers and comments at: http://www.hcra.org/big-e_2002.htm
As always, I'd like to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to all who
participated in the event, Norm & Betty for their extra efforts and Larry
for the organization. It's support like this that continues to make HCRA a
fine amateur radio club.
In addition to promoting our club and the hobby, names were being taken for
a Technician license class starting in January 2003. If you know of anyone
interested in joining the hobby, put them in touch with Norm
(mailto:[email protected]) and he will add them to the list.
The Basketball Hall of Fame special event station is less than two weeks
away. We are pretty much set for this one, Larry is coordinating the event,
Jan is loaning us a motor home for housing, and operators, loggers and
equipment donors are lined up. We could still use some help with set-up, if
you have some free time talk to Larry (mailto:[email protected]). The other
thing we will need is contacts. Because of the late announcement of the
grand opening date we were unable to get the station listed in QST. Let your
friend know about it and if you can get us posted on the DX Clusters once we
start operating. More information is available at:
http://www.hcra.org/wb1hof1.htm. There's going to be a lot of celebrities at
this year's enshrinement - it should be a fantastic time.
Don't forget about next month's meeting. It's going to be a doozy, with Mike
Carlowicz as the guest speaker. Mike is co-author of "Storms on the Sun"
http://lookout.home.netcom.com/ and will be talking to us about solar
weather and it's effects on our daily lives. Mike is coming all the way from
Woods Hole to address our group. This should be a very interesting meeting,
bring a friend and enjoy an educational evening.
Have you renewed yet? If not, time is running out to renew your membership
and have a chance to win an Icom HT. To be eligible to win, you must have
your dues paid before the drawing is held October 4th. You can read about
the sign-up raffle at http://www.hcra.org/signup_raffle.htm and if you need
an application you can download one at:
http://www.hcra.org/zerobeat/HCRA_Application%20Form%202002.pdf. You know
you're eventually going to renew, do it early and perhaps get a nice reward
at the same time!
The cut-off date for submissions for the October "Zero Beat" is September
20th. If you are planning any articles, ads or just a letter to the editor,
be sure to submit them to John, Kx1x at: mailto:[email protected] by this
Friday. Like everything else in the club, your monthly newsletter is only as
good as "you" make it. Many of our members have a lot of information to
share, so why not write it down and send it to John. Your efforts will
surely make someone else's day, and that's always a good thing.
Stay active and enjoy the hobby.
