We just received this short note from Mike Carlowicz, this Friday's guest
speaker. Mike would like to hear some of our observations about this latest
solar storm and how it has impacted our communications abilities.
His note follows...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
As a teaser for this Friday's talk...and as a gee-whiz conversation
starter worth discussing with your members...you might alert your group
that there is actually a G-3 space weather storm going on as we speak.
See http://www.spaceweather.com/
I would love to hear from people (on Friday) if they detect any signs of
the storm. The official NOAA description of a G-3 storm suggests
"intermittent satellite navigation and low-frequency radio navigation
problems may occur, HF radio may be intermittent, and aurora has been
seen as low as Illinois and Oregon (typically 50 geomagnetic lat.)."
Looking forward to the weekend.
Mike

Experiment is when everything works, but you dont know why.
In here, we mix theory and experiment. Nothing works, and no
one knows why. -- posted on the door of a WHOI scientist
