[HCRA] repeaters

Hi Dan,

Good to talk to you on the MTARA repeater today. After I was let go from my
position as trustee for MTARA, I asked the board to remove my name from the
membership list and consider the remainder of my dues as a donation to the
club. I'm not quite sure of the status of that donation. I understand that
an attempt was made to return the funds to me. For what reason, I don't
know. I had been laying low for a while and not using the repeaters
(licking my wounds). I was talking with Cindy today (Wednesday) and she
convinced me that I should just get on with it and put what happened in the
past. I took her up on that and began to use the repeaters again. I don't
think that I am back on the "good side" yet but I will try to find my way
back there where ever that is. There is nothing that I have done on behalf
of the MTARA that I have to be ashamed of and can hold my head high. I put
a lot of time into the position and accomplished many things despite what
some might say. So there is no reason that I should shy away from the
repeaters. I will probably join the club again as I believe that regular
users of the machines should give the club the benefit of membership support
($). This has always been one of my beliefs about repeater usage. I join
the KD1XP repeater group even though I have never used the machines and plan
to continue to support Richard in his efforts to provide quality repeaters
to the area. If I do renew my membership with the MTARA, I don't know what
I will do with the newsletters though, that is, until a new editor comes
along. I guess I can think of a few uses for the paper though, Hi Hi.

One other thing: I am pretty sure that there are not many on the board of
the MTARA that share the same anti repeater usage sentiment (esp. for HCRA)
that was expressed by a certain individual asking people not to use the
repeater on Friday before the field day exercise. The people that I talked
to expressed great concern about the anti usage incidents. It really goes
against the open repeater policy established for the club by one of the
original founders of the club namely Peter Bertini (K1ZJH). I don't think
that the policy has changed one inch from the original open policy. That
means even non members are just as welcome as members on the frequency. On
Friday when the traffic was heavy, anybody that needed to use the frequency
to coordinate their field day efforts from either club just had to insert
their call sign or use the well used phrase "call please" and the frequency
would have, I'm sure, been yielded to the caller.

On the day of the MTARA flea market I asked someone to move their
conversation to 67 from 94 if it were at all possible so that we could
coordinate our efforts on 94. This was a slightly different situation. The
conversation that day was of a general nature and the request was to move if
at all possible. The parties involved agreed to try the other frequency.
They certainly could have come back to 94 if the other channel had not
worked out. While I was trustee the board did vote to allow me to ask young
people that were tying the repeater up on 94 to try to use 67 so that 94
could be kept free for calling. I did this only when the conversation
dragged on endlessly at busy times. Most of the time the young folks were
understanding that 67 was a good place for them to gather. This doesn't
mean that they were not welcome on the other frequencies. If this met with
universal rejection then I do not think that I, or the club, at that time
would have pursued the policy. I still think that 67 is a good place for
young people to meet if they are going to tie the repeater up for a long
time. This goes along with even my repeater usage. I usually hang around
on 147.000 when I plan on chewing the fat on the air. There is a certain
"click" that hangs around there on that frequency. That is why I like
monitoring that one. I think you get the point, the two situations were
different.

Well, this is probably more of an explanation than you expected but I
figured since it was sent the to the list, people can get more of a feeling
of what I'm about by how I write about these issues.

73 de KI1I,
Peter
