>From the "start" button select "run". Then type "msconfig" and run it. The
first thing you see will be a page will lots of tabs. Click on the rightmost
one "startup". "Unclick" almost everything in this section. Leave only those
you feel must absolutely run (usually not much). This should help. About all
you really need running at startup is "explorer" and that in not on this
list. give this a try. You may want to add some program later, but start
with almost nothing.
