One problem with a less than optimum antenna is if you pump out say 500
watts, you might have a great transmitted signal but you can't hear. I
call this an alligator - all mouth and no ears ;-)
At my first house many years ago if I used a few hundred watts I had RF
all over my house and my neighbor's stereo system. I bypassed his
speaker leads with a capacitor and problem solved. I forgot how I solved
my problem. I was using a tri-band beam and a 4BTV vertical with radials
on top of the house.

But if you're not able to have an efficient antenna because of the lot size And trees as it is at my qth would brute force of an amplifier be the answer to help in making a contact. Thanks for the opinionsWD5ENHSteve
