To ALL-

Just wanted to provide an update on the Field Day CW station.

John Canfield is loaning his Kenwood TS-590S to the club CW station this year. It has great filtering. John is also bringing his power supply and manual for the TS-590S.

Frank Edwards is loaning his Dell 4-USB port computer, a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse.

Jerry Migely is preparing the computer for N1MM and networking. He is also loaning an RS-232 to CW keying device that he built himself.

I’m loaning a couple of USB to Serial converters, cables, and a Heath electronic keyer with paddle.

Lew King, Frank Edwards and I were able to configure devices and assemble the station at my QTH along with the club tuner. It was great being able to familiarize ourselves with a new rig prior to Field Day.

Lew King has been practicing with Morse Runner. We spent a couple of hours in a mock contest using N1MM and Lew did amazingly well.

As mentioned at the club meeting, we have attempted to assemble a station with the greatest amount of flexibility. Here are some setups:

1. A single person can utilize the function keys in N1MM to log and send CW from the wireless keyboard via the computer.
2. A single person can log and send CW with either the paddle on the electronic keyer or bring their own paddle to utilize the internal TS-590S keyer.
3. A team can operate with one person logging and the other operating the choice method of sending with his own paddle or external keyer.

It would be nice to have a ¼ “ male to two ¼” female adapter to allow tandem copying with headphones. This was discussed in the meeting but not sure if anyone located adapters or not.

Anyway, just want to say thank you to everyone working to put together Field Day.

Whether you are new to CW or a long time operator you are welcome to participate since we want people to have fun.

Based upon our recent experience Lew suggested we switch out operators about every hour on the CW station so we will be looking for people to operate. Don’t be shy about wanting to operate no matter what your speed.
