Just make sure any cable is not a "Null-Modem" type.

Subject: [HCARC] RS-232 Cable
To All-
John Canfield has loaned his TS-590S Transceiver to the club for the Field
Day CW station. We are setting up the station at my QTH to minimize last
minute glitches. There are a couple of additional items that will improve
operating.
We would like to set up rig control so that N1MM with automatically switch
bands following the band switch on the radio. This will prevent an
accidental mismatch of logging if one forgets to manually switch bands on
N1MM when the band on the radio is changed. This will require an additional
RS-232 cable or adapter.
The computer only has two USB outlets and we need three in order to add a
keyboard for more convenient typing (one for rig control, one for the CW
keying device, one for the keyboard).
So we need two items and would like to know if anyone in the club will
loan them to us.
1. Either a 9-pin female to female RS-232 cable or a 9-pin female to female
RS-232 adapter (we have a female to male RS-232 cable).
2. A two position or greater USB hub.
Appreciate your help.
