[HCARC] What Happens When The Club Has No Officers???

November is the month we elect officers. To my knowledge there are no volunteers who will place their names in running for any of the 4 club officers. The current officers have been in place for 3 years for the President and Secretary, 2 years for the Vice President and 1 year for the Treasurer (which had the advisory last year from Marilyn Vordenbaum that Harvey would serve one and only one year). So what happens when the club meets in November for elections and no one decides to serve. Do we just pray the current officers will relent and agree for one more year or since the club charter and bylaws require officers, does the club just fold up and dispose of all it’s bank balance and equipment by donating it to charity??

I for one will not serve another term as the Secretary. Consider this to be my official resignation as the Secretary effective the meeting in November.

Several months ago the club voted to maintain it’s meetings on the first Thursday of each month. Many members voiced the opinion that their monthly schedules were partially planned around this 1st Thursday meeting time. Well some of us, particularly the club officers would have liked the ability to attend other clubs meetings on the first Thursday to see how other clubs worked on getting things done like Field Day and how they encouraged members to volunteer to do things. If this club is going to continue in existence, it is time that some of these people step up and keep the club in operation by donating some of their precious time. The November meeting is 26 days off, there is no meeting in December other than the Christmas Party and the Christmas Party is 56 days off (5 December if I am correct). Without officers, there may be no January meeting.

BTW, the jobs such as Field Day Coordinator, Red Cross Rep, etc ARE NOT jobs that are attached to Club Officer positions. Those jobs stay with the individuals who volunteered for them. It is just coincidence that they are currently done by club officers in addition to their duties as an officer. As far as I know, these jobs chairmanships will remain unchanged after new officers are elected.

The current Club Officers have done their duty, it is time for others to step up and do theirs.

Just my opinion,
