[HCARC] Wild life

One ran into the driver's side of my car a number of years ago on 16 South
between Ranchero and Camp Meeting roads.
It broke my rear view mirror. I wonder if it had trouble eating after that?

Fred:

Thanks for the informative posting.

We tell folks who move here that there are two groups of people in the Hill
Country: those who have hit a deer, and those that will.

Everyone in the Gaudier family (four of us) has hit a deer. We live 12 miles
south of Kerrville and see lots of deer on the roads. Most recent collision
was shortly after Christmas where a whitetail went after my F150 and lost.
That's the second one the F150 has taken out with only minor damage to the
truck. I think Ford must build their trucks with deer in mind - this last
collision was on the front bumper at 60 mph and I only lost a small
replaceable rubber bumper guard. All our collisions have been at night. We
watch for them constantly, but they are quite adept at springing out of the
brush alongside the road directly in front of your vehicle leaving you no
opportunity to slow down or avoid the collision.

One thing I've taught my kids to NOT do is jerk the wheel when collision is
unavoidable - that can send you off the road or into oncoming traffic.

73,

Dale - K4DG

Anyone living in an area where there are a lot of deer or other large wild
life need to watch this. Here in the Texas Hill country its not if you hit
a deer, but when.
