[HCARC] question about repeater

Yes, I agree to a point, but since the solar part of the system is just for
backup for hopefully a short period of time, the solar panel needed has
plenty of time to perform battery charging. It's akin to the solar setup
needed for daily operation vs the solar setup one might put at a vacation
house where it was only operated 2 weekends a month. The requirements are
radically different. To determine what we would need to run the system full
time off of solar would best be found by putting one of those plug in watt
meters into the current system and see over a couple of weeks what our
average daily electrical usage is. That info tells you how much electricity
you need to be able to generate. Remember going solar, while it has an up
front cost, eliminates the electric bill monthly so in effect it pays for
itself over time. The cost of solar is going down significantly over time.

Thanks for the lead to the local Golf Cart guys. I'll check them out - the
225 amp hour 6 volt battery at Costco was $89.00 (two required to get 12
volts cost $178.00). Since I have a standing appointment every tuesday in
SA, the trip into town cost is negligible.
