[HCARC] Radio equipment questions

John, if I can answer any questions, I'll be happy to do so as I'm in
harper.

I have six years navy experience as a radioman and an additional couple
years working as a communications equipment operator for the navy after my
service time.

I'm not far from you either.

The reason I decided to write is I'm thinking about getting a icom v80 in a
couple of weeks.

Can I reach the repeater from harper?

I bought a sdr dongle type thing based on the E4000 system a month ago, but
so far I have heard nothing.

Of course, I do not have an external antenna which might be the problem

Hi guys,

On Wednesday I am going to pick up a few radios, which is great, because
hopefully I can bring them to the field day and some of you might be able to
show me a few things (?).

But my budget may allow me to get another radio that is not included in this
setup I am soon be a proud owner of (the main radio is a "Yaesu -
FT-1000MP") - I did want a radio that worked the 23cm and 70cm if I am
stating that correctly.

I had looked into SDR setups, but they seem so expensive. I don't want a
hand held and it looks like a mobile will be the only way to go, but I can
fix that with a power supply (?).

I want the ability to listen or transmit (upon my receiving my license /
ticket) on 1 radio and if possible have Josh do CW on another, or to be able
to listen on several.

The radios I am getting are as follows:

Yaesu - FT-1000MP
Alinco DR-605TQ
Azden PCS-7500

I am also getting myself a few other things, I guess next is to find a
suitable antenna array!

But my budget leaves me with possibly another $600 - $800. I want to ensure
I cover most if not all of my bases, so that I am not asking my darling Wife
for money again in 6 months!
