[HCARC] Propagation

Hank,

Your response makes me think I should rephrase my question.  That would be, what conditions should I look for in the future when I have a qso with a station to the east of me, the east coast and/or Europe.  It will be easier to make note of conditions at that time than trying to recreate the past.  After all, in ham radio expect the unexpected.  I know I will have similar qsos when I return to my northern qth.

Concerning my absence this morning.  The XYL gets the car on Wednesday mornings so I am left to my motorcycle. Just wasn't up to suiting up for this morning's cool temperature so I had to breakfast alone (I know, I can hear one big sigh out there).

73,

Jerry

Jerry,

I wonder if the "giant reflector" behind you is not allowing you to maximize Ionospheric reflection? If the atmospheric conditions were just right? Another part of the puzzle would be to look at the weather and atmospheric conditions, both Chicago and received station, for each of the events.

Missed you at coffee this morning.

Regards
Hank

My condo balcony is on the west side of a 34 floor building. I have used a 45 ft wire antenna and a Taktenna (spiral wound dipole) from my balcony for HF operation.  I have a Kenwood TS-2000 and MFJ antenna tuner.

However, I have the condo building with all its concrete and steel as a giant reflector immediately behind me - the east.  I can understand how I can regularly make contacts to the west, but occasionally I make contacts to the east that surprise me.  Here is some of my log data listing some of these contacts.  In all cases I was operating JT65HF, 35 watts or less. Time is UTC.
