[HCARC] New Coax Seal???

My two bits:

Gary, I think that the test you mentioned would be something interesting to
do. However it might not represent the longer term effects of weather and
time.

Having made some mistakes along the way in the construction of a few
stations, I have adopted some quality measures that I won't compromise,
especially when it comes to putting stuff outside, and/or in the "sky".

Typical examples are the best quality connectors (Amphenol 083-1SP),
electrical tape (3M 33+), and of course the afore mentioned 3M Scotch Vinyl
Electrical Tape.

While they are a little more costly, they are not the most expensive things
that might exist in a ham radio tower/antenna/station configuration, and
might help to avert breakdowns due to weather and ageing, and less than
optimum results due to mechanical signal loss.

Apparently almost the same product except that the 3M version available on
Ham sites is either black or red and is twice the cost. Think I am going to
try this stuff - on fittings close to the ground as an experiment. I'll do
one on a cut off fitting and bring it to the meeting.

If this is like the 3M product - then yes, it's true. Can't do any better
than this
to seal coax connectors. The NWS team started using this on the NOAA Wx
radio sites after shown this product (the 3M version).

Has anyone heard of or tried a new sealing tape from Nashua Tape Products
called "Stretch and Seal". The package says it is self fusing silicone
sealing tape which is recommended for splicing, etc. It has a workable temp
range of -65F to 500F, uv resistant, protects to 8000 volts, is waterproof,
leaves no residue, is clear, and stretches 300%. It's recommended uses are
splice and repair electrical wires and cords, seal electrical plugs and
connectors, seal pipes and hoses, cover sharp edges and protect against rust
and corrosion.

OR is this a Too Good To Be True product??? One good thing - it's made in
the USA.

Available at Home Depot at about $6.00 for 10 feet.
