Little added info.  Numerous AM broadcast stations use arrays of driven vertical elements at night to protect the coverage areas of other stations.  The KKYX night time antenna in San Antonio is an example.  Other examples are Adcock DF antennas which use a pair of vertical dipoles and Wullenwebers which use about 100 vertical elements in a circular array for HFDF (direction finding).  A pair of verticals is a fairly common ham antenna and there are quite a few hams that are using 4 verticals in a square arrangemnt that I think is called a Four Square.
