As many of us have not see an HBR-17 before, I put up a few photos on photobucket.com for your viewing enjoyment. As I recall the story, Alex Stewart wanted to hot rod the HBR-16 by adding a Q-Multipler, tweaking some circuit values, and adding the smooth Eddystone slide rule dial. As I heard it, Ted Crosby was not really interested in doing the HBR-17 as it was considerably more mechanically complicated, more skills than the average HBR builder had. Ted’s reoccurring theme was to design a receiver that could be readily built by ‘amateurs’. I can attest to the complex machining required for the raised RF front end. Luckily at work they have a Bridgeport milling machine and the engineer in charge of the lab was happy to teach me how to use it. After many missteps, I was able to route out the large opening in the chassis, and use it to mill out slots, and holes. Not for the faint hearted. hi hi
