Hi. I have used a door knob but I found it works even better if the 
doorknob is installed on an actual door! <evil grin> I have had the same 
end result when I clamped the end of the wire in my bench vise (which is 
mounted to a bench). Whether bench vice, doorknob, trailer hitch on a 
Chevy or Ford truck give the wire a sharp tug or two. The tug(s) 
relax(es) the "kinks".
