easier wiring access is very attractive indeed. Has anyone taken up
supplying chassis kits since Mr. Byers passed away?<<
Not to my knowledge.
The nearest thing I have found are the LMB Heeger "Omni" chassis kits
(http://www.lmbheeger.com/products.asp?catid=10). They are in some ways
similar to the Byers kits.
I have used them in some of my construction (see for instance
http://tinyurl.com/khckgdu).
A definite drawback, especially for receivers, is the relatively thin
aluminum.
If you want to go the whole hog you buy the raw aluminum and bend it
yourself. See for instance http://www.bignick.net/HBR_11/chassis_punched.jpg
-- but I assume you've all seen that already.
Cheers,
