[HBR] Product detector for CW?

Hello All,
Having never used one, I'm wondering about the usefulness of a product
detector for CW. I'm set up for SSB with a Kenwood TS-530S, and don't expect
to ever use an HBR for that.
Reaching back 60 years in memory, I seem to recall that the product detector
had some advantage in cancelling noise, and that would certainly be
worthwhile.
So, for just AM and CW use, I'm thinking that it might simplify things to
just go for the infinite impedance detector in the HBR-14. It's clear from
his writings that Ted wasn't interested in AM. If I remember rightly he
called it "ancient modulation".
Cheers,
Brian
