[HBR] 6U8 as mixer in heterodyne VFO

Thank you for the ideas. My VFOs are single-ended but there's no reason I
couldn't insert a bifilar transformer between there and the mixer. Having
struggled
with filters in similar situations before, the idea of using balanced
mixers to
suppress some of the large unwanted signals is a winner.

In the context of hybrid receivers <warning: solid-state content>, I have
used
an Si570, which has differential outputs, driving a differential video
amplifier
(AD8138) as input to the deflector plates on a beam deflection mixer. This
is a wideband scheme, no tuned components used.
