[HBR] Mixers

For RF, I like the 6JH8 family of beam-deflection mixers. If you apply the
LO to
the deflection plates, I believe that their basic characteristic is that of
a pentode,
but with a balanced ouput (easy to null by adjusting differential bias).

I have used a Pullen mixer as a product detector using a Compactron triple
triode (I forget the tube number, sorry). This worked well - using a triode
with 1mA
of plate current allowed of a large plate resistor and get lots of
conversion gain as
a result (useful for audio-derived AGC).
