I went looking for a bit more on the Knight Star Roamer. This is a pretty
good link:

and includes this link to the schematic:

This is a pretty impressive piece of work for something at this price and
level of simplicity. Three stages of audio -- two halves of a 12AX7
cascaded driving a 6AK6 so there should be plenty of gain, plus the last two
stages get negative feedback from the voice coil winding on the output
transformer so the audio should be unusually good.

The IF stage is a 6HR6. That's a high gain semiremote cutoff pentode and I
wouldn't be surprised if the pot in the suppressor grid circuit (called
'sensitivity' on the panel) effectively adjusts regeneration and allows it
to break into oscillation so you have the equivalent of a BFO.

There seems to be a code practice oscillator function, though I can't tell
how it works just by looking at the diagram.

An interesting receiver, and for having nothing much in the box it seems to
have pretty good features. As Bill indicates, however, it's pretty much
just a chassis for HBR purposes There's not enough there to get you very
far into W6TC-land.
