[HBR] One more quick question

Hi Walt,
Thanks for your comments.
The HR-10 vs A certainly is a big change. The A model has a different
paint scheme. There may be some internal changes but I haven't looked.
Mine is not the prettiest but not too bad, either. Having already
offered it several times and no takers it is virtually worthless. Except
as an HBR mule. BTW - mine has the xtal calibrator.
Moving the power supply and audio off the HBR to a separate box (my
intent) should give some more room for the additional parts inside. I
haven't approached the layout yet. I only just got my shack and
workspace buttoned up against the approaching northwoods winter.
The Star Roamer did have a BFO function but it was a regenerative IF
kludge. The chassis I have is a bare chassis. It eyeballs out (to my
eyes) about the same size as the HR-10 chassis. If it turns out to be
too small I'll use it for something else. It's a metal box with holes
here n there and about the right size. The rest of the Star Roamer that
lived on that chassis is a long time *gone*. Perfect for patching,
punching, and massaging. Once again, external power and audio. I have
the tuning cap sets from a couple of those old FM BC receivers.
I put a 10:1 drive on the "bandspread" cap in a Star Roamer once upon a
time and it helped immensely. No...it didn't become a frequency meter.
You should get useful results doing that with the Dial Cal cap on the
HR-10.
About long and slow - I have a few grandkids and great grandkids that
need hugging now and then. A big, good, old dog that needs his ears
scratched and walks. There are a couple of musical instruments that need
my attention - jam sessions, practice, and gigs. There are radios here
that already work and need to be exercised. And lets not forget about a
long term XYL! Most of us have lots of things to slow us down. So the
long, slow race is ON! Ready! Set! Went! <evil grin>
