[HBR] Intermediate Project

Hi Scott,
I have been rounding up parts for a SimpleX Super which is similar to
but a bit simpler than the two by four receiver. They use the same band
imaging front end but the SimpleX one uses a single crystal filter and
one less audio tube. I am planning to build one straight up as designed
and then build a second one with additional band coverage - probably
with plug in coils up front. I am not opposed to using band imaging but
the second one will probably have the image fall in one of the short
wave broadcast bands outside any ham bands. Since I sometimes listen
outside the ham bands I will keep the imaging feature. By moving to
plug-in coils for band changes I will be able to move the I.F. out of
the broadcast band and move the design a little closer to the HBR
design.
I am considering the HBR 8/11 eventually and I'm slowly accumulating
some of the parts for that. I have already mentioned here that I want to
rearrange the layout to get a different 'form factor' and I got advice
from the group about some possible mistakes to avoid when I do - and I'm
paying attention to that. It's good to see other people, like yourself,
making moves toward a new HBR.

It would give me a chance to gain some mechanical and tube wiring experience. I can use the same style chassis that I'm planning on using for the HBR, do the drilling, hole punching, precise measurements, and work out the newbie problems on it rather than my nice HBR project.

Equally interesting is that I just purchased a Millen 10035 dial from a listmember, that is the dial used in the 2x4+. So maybe it's fate or as Darth Vader said 'it's your destiny'. hi hi
