Walt brings up a good idea, maybe I should take on an intermediate project first before jumping into a complicated receiver.  It would give me a chance to gain some mechanical and tube wiring experience.  I can use the same style chassis that I'm planning on using for the HBR, do the drilling, hole punching, precise measurements, and work out the newbie problems on it rather than my nice HBR project.

Walt suggested the 2X4+ Superhet.  Oddly enough, In the back of my bound booklet of all the HBR-16 articles and info is the 2x4+ article. Not sure why I have it or put it there several years ago.  Equally interesting is that I just purchased a Millen 10035 dial from a listmember, that is the dial used in the 2x4+.  So maybe it's fate or as Darth Vader said 'it's your destiny'. hi hi

Thanks for the suggestion Walt.

I'm narrowing down the first HBR model build to an HBR 12.  I was reading the QST article last night and saw where they offered a chassis and front panel template.  Does anyone on the list have those templates?
