[HBR] Can I call it mine?

Hi Tom, thanks for your comments, recommendations, and advice.  I've decided not to rip up either my 16 or 13C, but instead build my own from scratch.  I'm struggling with determining which HBR model to build as I have no experience with all of them.  If I were an experienced radio builder I'd do the 13C but this is my first complicated radio project.  I have poor mechanical skills and I think the 13C requires some good skill dealing with the Eddystone and elevated chassis.

I think the 16 is simple and straightforward, with a chassis having enough room.  I've read where Ted Crosby said the 11 was his best achievement based on performance and simplicity. I like that.  I won't build an HBR just for simplicity though, it needs to be a good performer.

>From what you say on your 11 experience, it is a hot hot performer.

I just bought a National dial and NPW gear box plus an Eddystone slide rule dial.  I'm thinking of keeping the Eddystone on standby for a future 13C and using the National dial for either a 16 or 11.  I also found three NOS 85 KC BC-453 IF transformers, so I'm pretty close to having the really difficult parts for the project.

Any time you put YOUR soul into something - it becomes YOURS.  Yes, replace
the caps, replace any resistors that are out of tolerance, "shotgun" all the
solder joints, clean everything (including tube sockets with a tiny bit of
DeOxit) and tighten all hardware.  The basic circuit is TERRIFIC and as my
HBR-11 still provides "readable cw" at .045 uv @ 75m - I'd say that's just
fine.  I've often thought of replacing the front panel (the control holes
aren't exactly in a straight line), but ya'know - it has character and a
proud history - why mess that up?
