Hi Breck and all,
Years ago I used a self excited 6BE6 product detector with a BC-453. I
just connected the tuned circuit to the grid through the parallel RC (other
end of the coil grounded), and connected the feedback winding (the original
grid winding) between cathode and ground. As I remember, I had to open up
the can and reverse the feedback winding so that the original grounded end
went to the cathode.
This is very close electrically to a Hartley oscillator connection. The
difference being that the feedback is from a separate winding to ground
instead of from a tap on the coil.
Its been a long time ago, like 1964!

I have never been able to successfully use the
Command Set BFO coil in a Hartley
configuration. We would be interested in your
results and a diagram?
