[HBR] building the HBR

I'm finally assembling the majority of parts. So far, the 100 kcs coils (or
262 kcs versions to be modified thereof) have been received. I am also
working on a Jackson Drive/National SCN adaption that should require the
minimal amount of machining and it will give you at least a 50-60:1 tuning
ratio using off the shelf parts, two sets of which I got from the nearby Rat
Shack, of all places. I also have the power supply iron and a few sockets.
However, due to work, I won't be doing the build process until after June
19. In the meantime, I will be working on a few chassis layouts before
settling in on one. I originally wanted to center mount the main tuning cap
ala HBR-13C but decided that was more for aesthetic purposes rather than for
performance reasons so I'm ditching that config.

I suspect I'll first build up the power supply, test that, and use the
supply to test some of the modules as I build them up one my one. The
hardest part so far, is trying to get the test equipment to do the IF coil
testing and calibration. I will be waiting to use a VTVM or scope to check
the output of both the 100 kcs and 1600 kcs IF coils. I left a dual trace
100 MHZ scope back in California and I'm out here on the EAST coast. Talk
about luck. Oh well...However, I want to be extra sure that all components
going into the rx are fully vetted so I reduce the probability of a faulty
component causing any grief during the firing up process. At least I will do
that before assembling the beast.
