Previously posted (in part): "The question I had was in my junking over the
years, I've run
across a few belt drives for copy machines and scanners. Some of
this material seems very strong, and you should be able to have your
cake and eat it too, why not place the oscillator section where Ted
wanted it, and set up a chain or belt mechanism between the dial and
the cap?
OR, would like to know what the differences were in the center
dial set up was. Seems it worked well with the HBR 13C, and at least
so far I did not catch the caveats of the center drive over the left
hand drive... I'm still in the gathering part of the build, so
plenty of time for reading and daydreaming. Wanna help me along in
that department??? : )"

Hello Bill:
I would avoid the use of those belts and try to stick with the original
mounting schemes illustrated over the past decades. I think you would be
introducing an extra amount of slop and slip that would defeat the use of
the 898 dial. Remember, backlash is your enemy, but a good solid direct
mechanical mounting is your best friend. FWIW. Cal.
