Hi Everybody,
I have received a number of replies here on the list and in private.
Thanks for all the pointers I've received so far. I think some of the
responses imply that I am trying to make the HBR the same size as one of
the command receivers and that's not quite what I meant. There is simply
not as much going on in one those little receivers.
I'm going to acquire one of those CD or DVD sets that has been
recommended. I already suspected that the front end "module" should be
built "as designed" so that all the parts of that section were in the
same relationship to each other. That doesn't mean the IF chain has to
also be in the same relationship with the front end parts or tuning
cap(s). List members pointed at some "gotchas" that I can watch out for
now. Thanks for all of that.
This afternoon I was showing a couple of young men who are working on
drywall and insulation in my garage the 1930s and 1940s gear that I
still use all the time. I mentioned to them that I can still get parts
for them, too. I challenged them to try and find parts for their four
year old computers!. I am considering building this tube based receiver
instead of a solid state rx partly for those same reasons.

Bill KU8H
