Hello all,

I am using the 262kHz
K-Tran IFs in my HBR-11.

So, I thought I'd make the
modifications suggested at:

http://www.qsl.net/k5bcq/HK/HK.html#SUB

Adding 430 pF mica caps was no issue, but trying to do the
following:

"heat the upper (easy access) coil until the
wax melts and slide it to the end of the coil form "

turned out to be near disastrous for me :-(

I used an Unger
heat gun and tried to CAREFULLY heat the wax/upper coil.

As I
heated, I gently pushed on the coil with a tool in an attempt to slide it
one
its form.

There really isn't much room to slide it;
I'd guess about 1/8" at most.

While I was trying to slide
the coil, I suddenly realized that the plastic coil form
was starting
to bubble up for the heat & was turning to mush!

I quickly
removed the heat and tried to hold the plastic form is the
"correct"
position while it cooled.

It's plenty
distorted, but if I'm lucky, it still may work.

So, if anyone
else tries this, be careful.  Also, let me know if you were
successful.  (I may just settle for over-coupled
transformers.)

I see that someone is selling one of these
transformers for $40 on eBay so

I wouldn’t want to se any get melted
J

Thanks and 73!
