[HBR] So i'm gonna build an HBR-XX

Nick & all, you probably have considered the HBR 12. It used a seperate
oscillator tube. Ted Crosby came out with a modification to the HBR 11 to
convert it to the HBR 12. I have one here with the tube extending out
horizontally out the back of the chassis as per Ted's modification. While it
works fine, I never much liked this and if I ever built another HBR 12 I
would go the vertical route. Building from scratch as you are doing, there
should be no problem mounting this extra tube vertical on the chassis as per
the HBR 13 etc.
The additional tube apparently reduced oscillator pulling. No doubt more
knowledgable HBR builders can add to this. I have the origional Crosby
article and I can dig it up if there is any interest.

Hi Bob,

Well I think I read somewhere that Crosby said that the
HBR-11 worked as
well as (or maybe better than?) than the HBR-16.

And, I figured that I'd be lucky if I could locate the components
for a "simple"
HBR let alone the Cadillac version
:-) I guess I just perceived the HBR-11 to be
a more
manageable project? I'll find out ..

I did see some
layouts for the HBR-16 online somewhere, probably through that
site
that has all the photographs of various people's HBR receivers.

Best of luck on your Collins 75A-1 restoration project.

What
shape is it in? Any "before" photographs available?
