Greetings, Carlos.
A receiver that might be fun to look at is the SimpleX Super Mark II.
This uses a
1700kHz IF, and a carefully chosen LO frequency, to tune 40m and 80m together.
You use the selectivity of the preselector to select which band.
This is in the 1963 ARRL Handbook in the HR Receivers section.
There is a more advanced receiver along the same lines in the same Handbook
(the 2X4+). Both these receivers are fun to build and although they
don't have the
performance of the HBR, they are a great deal simpler because there is no
bandswitching or sets of plug-in coils.
I have a small number of ARC-5 1415kHc IFTs here. Ken Gordon suggests that
these may convert easily to 177kHz. I would be happy to provide a
couple to people
if anyone cares to experiment and report back.
73, ian K3IMW
