Oh whoops! I should have checked before posting, and I see the 13C is
the only design that used an active stage at the 1600kc IF frequency.
You need two IFTs for 1600kc. So, the idea about checking for a
defunct tube CB with salvageable 1650 IFTs is a good plan! The Heath
HR-10 and a few other ham rigs used IFs in that region (1680kc) and if
a scrapper could be found the IFTs could be tuned down with padding
caps.
I'm not trying to steal the thread, but why did Ted feel that an IFA
was needed in that one HBR example? I'd would have thought it would
screw up the gain distribution, why so much gain, and why risk
overdriving the second mixer?
