Pete,

Couldn't you set the ARC-5 cans to loose coupling, and then use a switchable
coupling scheme like the Hallicrafters SX-100, SX-101A and the Heath Mohawk
-- which seems to be a copy of the Hallicrafters IF circuit?

I'm still afraid the low Q may keep it from working as well as it could
otherwise.

BTW does anyone know the story behind the Heath copy of the Hallicrafters
circuit?

Turning into a mechanical layout nightmare. The ARC-5 IFTs eat too much
room to allow what I was thinking of doing; its almost impossible to get them
in a straight line perpendicular to vacant panel space. Back to the fixed IF
BW.
