[HBR] Mixer questions and other tech questions..

It seems like the balanced mixer isn't going to pan out for the first
mixer in the HBR receiver  due to Ted's use of harmonic mixing above
40 meters. I can see that what looked good in 1959 is going to limit
my options for possible improvements 50 years later.  I'd like to keep
the design close to what Ted did, and also keep it within the spirit
of the technology that was available to hams in the late 50s or early
60s.

Since the balanced mixer is going to be a flop, my next choice would
be a 6ES8 Pullen mixer. How well does that circuit work as a harmonic
mixer?
