Sanders used a broadband injection scheme on the SSR-1 RX. Details
are sketchy, but apparently it used two concentric miniductor coils in
an untuned broadband RF transformer... I'm hopeful with a little work
and experimentation a balanced untuned toroid transformer could be
devised that could be made to work in some fashion, but I've been told
the termination impedances would also be critical in that application.
I was thinking of using a 6C4 phase splitter after the LO, and driving
the deflection electrodes from the plate and cathode output. This is
all started to look like an exercise in futility. The other option is
to simply drive one deflector in an unbalanced configuration, I assume
this would give nearly the same dynamic range, while losing the
advantage of being able to reject 1600kc BCB mixer blowby? I was
hoping someone had overcome these obstacles, thus saving me a lot of
heartache and work :)
